This "Prentice" or Silver & Deming style design allows maintenance professionals and fabricators to utilize standard 1/2-inch chucks found on portable drills, magnetic base drills, and stationary drill presses to create substantial 1-1/8" holes without the need for heavy machinery with Morse taper spindles.

At the core of the SST+ performance is its advanced metallurgy. Manufactured from a high-speed steel formulation enriched with a cobalt blend, this bit is specifically tailored to withstand the extreme heat generated when drilling tough alloys. This makes it an exceptional choice for working with stainless steel, a material notorious for work-hardening and destroying standard bits. The cobalt content maintains hardness at higher temperatures, ensuring the cutting edges remain sharp longer, thereby reducing the frequency of re-sharpening and lowering overall consumable costs.

Operational stability is paramount when drilling large diameters. To address this, Walter has integrated a shank design featuring three machined flats.
