OVERVIEW

High-Performance Zirconia Alumina Flap Disc for Steel

The Walter Surface Technologies ALLSTEEL™ flap disc (SKU: 15W456) represents a significant advancement in general-purpose abrasive solutions for industrial environments. Designed specifically for use on steel, this 4-1/2 inch disc utilizes a proprietary blend of Zirconia Alumina grain. This abrasive material is engineered to fracture under pressure, a process known as self-sharpening, which exposes fresh, sharp cutting edges throughout the life of the disc. This mechanism ensures a consistent removal rate and prevents the glazing often associated with lower-quality abrasives.

One of the standout features of the ALLSTEEL™ line is the trimmable backing. In standard flap discs, the abrasive cloth often wears down to the backing plate, leaving unused abrasive material near the center that must be discarded. The ALLSTEEL™ backing can be trimmed down, allowing the operator to utilize the full diameter of the flaps. This feature significantly extends the service life of each disc, reducing the frequency of changeovers and lowering overall consumable costs. The Type 27 profile provides a flat grinding surface, ideal for blending and finishing operations where control and surface consistency are paramount.

Constructed in Germany to rigorous quality standards, these discs are optimized for angle grinders and offer a balance of aggression and finish. The 60 grit configuration provides a versatile medium-coarse texture, suitable for both substantial stock removal and preparing surfaces for finer finishing steps. Whether used for heavy deburring, edge chamfering, or blending fillet welds, the 15W456 delivers reliable performance in demanding fabrication settings.

By integrating a high-performance grain blend with an economical design structure, Walter provides a solution that meets the needs of high-volume shops. The disc requires less pressure to cut effectively, reducing operator fatigue during extended grinding sessions. This efficiency, combined with the extended life provided by the trimmable backing, makes the ALLSTEEL™ an excellent choice for MRO and fabrication departments looking to optimize their abrasive inventory.

FAQ

The ALLSTEEL™ series is specifically designed for high removal rates on steel.

The plastic backing can be trimmed down as the flaps wear, allowing you to use the abrasive material closer to the center of the disc that is normally wasted.

This is a 60 grit disc, suitable for medium stock removal and blending.

This is a Type 27 disc, which has a flat profile ideal for smooth blending and finishing on flat surfaces.

It uses a special Zirconia Alumina grain blend that self-sharpens during use.

While it can physically grind aluminum, it is optimized for steel. Aluminum may cause the disc to load (clog) faster. A disc specifically for non-ferrous metals is recommended for aluminum.

These are sold in packages of 10.

This fits a standard 7/8" arbor, common on most 4-1/2" angle grinders.
