OVERVIEW

High-Performance Finishing with Extended Lifespan

The Walter Surface Technologies Enduro-Flex 15R712 is a premium 7-inch flap disc designed for industrial metalworking professionals who demand efficiency and longevity. Engineered with a specialized Zirconia Alumina grain structure, this 120-grit disc excels in finishing applications on both steel and stainless steel, providing a consistent surface profile without heat buildup.

The defining feature of the Enduro-Flex line is the patented ECO-TRIM backing. Unlike traditional fiberglass backings that must be discarded once the edge wears down, the ECO-TRIM backing is made from a specially formulated plastic that can be trimmed away. This innovation allows operators to expose fresh abrasive flaps that would otherwise go unused, extending the service life of the disc by up to three times. This translates to significant cost savings and reduced downtime for disc changes in high-volume production environments.

Designed as a Type 27 (depressed center) disc, it offers optimal control for flat surface finishing and edge blending. The 120-grit composition is ideal for the final stages of surface preparation, removing light scratches, blending weld seams, and preparing surfaces for painting or polishing. The disc operates with minimal vibration, ensuring precision and protecting the workpiece from gouging or uneven finishes.

FAQ

ECO-TRIM is a patented plastic backing used on Walter Enduro-Flex discs. It can be trimmed down to expose fresh abrasive flaps, extending the life of the disc by up to three times compared to standard fiberglass-backed discs.

You can trim the backing by running the edge of the backing against a sharp metal edge or a scrap piece of metal while the grinder is spinning, effectively shaving off the plastic to reveal the abrasive underneath.

While it is designed primarily for steel and stainless steel, it can be used on aluminum. However, to prevent clogging (loading) of the disc, it is recommended to use a lubricant or wax stick designed for non-ferrous metals.

The maximum safe operating speed for the 15R712 7-inch disc is 8,600 RPM. Always ensure your grinder does not exceed this rating.

No, the Enduro-Flex flap disc comes with a built-in backing plate (the ECO-TRIM hub), so no separate backing pad is required. It mounts directly to the grinder using the standard flange nut.

120 grit is a fine abrasive. It is used for the final stages of finishing, blending, and smoothing. It will not remove stock aggressively like a 40 or 60 grit but will leave a very smooth surface suitable for painting or polishing.

Type 27 discs are flat (depressed center) and are best for finishing flat surfaces and blending. Type 29 discs are conical and are typically used for more aggressive stock removal and contour work. This product is a Type 27.

Yes, Walter Enduro-Flex discs are generally contaminant-free (Fe, S, Cl < 0.1%), making them safe for use on stainless steel without causing cross-contamination or corrosion issues.
