This tool is manufactured using high-quality carbon steel wire that has been oil-hardened and tempered. This metallurgical treatment significantly enhances the wire's fatigue resistance, preventing premature breakage and 'wire throw' commonly associated with lower-quality brushes. The wire filaments are crimped, a design choice that offers a degree of flexibility, making this wheel ideal for general surface conditioning where conformability to the workpiece is required without gouging the base metal.

One of the critical technical advantages of the Walter 13B061 is its precision balancing. Improperly balanced wire wheels can generate severe vibration at operating speeds (up to 6,000 RPM), which not only produces a poor surface finish but also accelerates wear on the bench grinder's bearings and shaft.
