OVERVIEW

High-Performance Ceramic Grinding for Hard Alloys

The Pferd 42628 Combidisc is a premium 2-inch abrasive disc engineered for the most demanding industrial grinding applications. Featuring Pferd's advanced Ceramic Oxide CO-COOL grain, this disc is specifically formulated to excel on materials that are difficult to machine and have poor thermal conductivity, such as stainless steel (INOX) and nickel-based alloys (e.g., Inconel, Hastelloy). The CO-COOL technology integrates active grinding additives directly into the top coating, which significantly reduces friction and heat generation during the grinding process. This prevents the glazing of the abrasive and the thermal damage (heat tint) of the workpiece, ensuring structural integrity and reducing post-process finishing time.

The 36 grit composition offers a coarse, aggressive texture suitable for rapid stock removal, leveling welds, and removing heavy surface defects. The ceramic grain is self-sharpening; as the grains fracture, they expose new, sharp cutting edges, maintaining a consistent cut rate throughout the life of the disc. This mechanism allows the Pferd 42628 to outlast conventional aluminum oxide or zirconia discs, providing a lower total cost of ownership for high-volume fabrication environments.

Designed with the CDR attachment system, this disc features a plastic threaded hub on the reverse side that is fully compatible with standard Type R (TR) or Roloc backing pads. This quick-change mechanism ensures minimal downtime between disc swaps, maximizing operator productivity. The robust backing material supports the grain under high pressure, making it stable enough for edge grinding yet flexible enough for contour work in confined spaces.

FAQ

You need a backing pad compatible with the CDR system, which is equivalent to the industry-standard Type R or Roloc TR system (plastic threaded button).

While ceramic grain is hard enough for aluminum, this specific CO-COOL disc is optimized for stainless steel and hard alloys. For aluminum, a disc with specific lubricants to prevent loading is usually recommended, though this will work for aggressive removal.

CO-COOL refers to Pferd's ceramic oxide grain combined with active grinding additives that reduce friction and heat, preventing thermal damage to the workpiece.

The maximum recommended speed is typically around 25,000 RPM, but always verify with the specific backing pad rating and safety instructions.

Ceramic grain is harder and more durable than zirconia. It is self-sharpening and typically provides a faster cut rate and longer service life, especially on hardened metals.

These discs are generally designed for dry grinding applications.

This is a 36 grit disc, which is considered coarse and suitable for heavy stock removal.

The CDR mount utilizes a robust plastic threaded connection on the back of the disc.
