OVERVIEW

Precision Engineered 819-0 Cutting Tip for Industrial Applications

The Generic 819-0 Cutting Tip is a high-performance replacement consumable designed specifically for use with Air Liquide style oxy-fuel cutting torches. Engineered to meet rigorous industrial standards, this tip is manufactured to replicate the flow characteristics and seating dimensions of original equipment, ensuring seamless compatibility and safety. The 819 series is distinctively designed for use with alternative fuel gases, specifically Propane and Natural Gas, making it a vital component for fabrication shops and industrial facilities that prefer these fuels over Acetylene for their cost-efficiency and availability.

Technically, the 819-0 utilizes a two-piece construction, a standard requirement for efficient propane combustion. Unlike Acetylene, Propane has a lower flame propagation rate and requires a specific nozzle design to anchor the flame effectively. This tip features a heavy-duty brass outer shell and a precision-machined copper inner insert. The inner insert is designed with splined preheat channels that create the necessary turbulence to mix the fuel gas and oxygen thoroughly while stabilizing the preheat flame at the tip face. This design maximizes heat transfer to the workpiece, allowing for rapid starts even with the lower flame temperature of propane compared to acetylene.

The "Size 0" classification indicates the orifice diameter of the cutting oxygen stream, which dictates the thickness of the material that can be effectively processed. A Size 0 tip in the 819 series is typically calibrated for cutting mild steel ranging from approximately 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch (6mm to 12mm). This makes it an excellent choice for general fabrication, HVAC ductwork, and light structural repairs. The tip seats are machined to tight tolerances to ensure a leak-proof seal within the torch head, preventing dangerous gas mixing within the torch body. Users can expect consistent flame stability, minimal slag accumulation, and a long service life when operated within recommended pressure settings.

By utilizing high-grade copper and brass alloys, this generic replacement offers excellent thermal conductivity and resistance to heat deformation. It is an ideal solution for MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) managers looking to maintain high operational standards while optimizing consumable costs.

FAQ

This tip is designed exclusively for use with Propane or Natural Gas. It is NOT compatible with Acetylene.

It fits Air Liquide style cutting torches that accept the 819 series tips.

A Size 0 tip is generally rated for cutting steel thicknesses between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch.

Propane burns at a different velocity than acetylene. The two-piece design with a splined insert creates turbulence to anchor the flame to the tip face effectively.

You can separate the outer shell from the inner insert. Clean the splines on the insert gently with a wire brush and use a tip cleaner for the central oxygen orifice.

While it produces a preheat flame, it is designed for cutting. For dedicated heating applications, a rosebud heating tip is recommended.

As a consumable item, it is typically warranted against manufacturing defects but not against normal wear and tear or damage from misuse.

Using Acetylene with a two-piece propane tip is dangerous. It can cause overheating, backfires, and potential damage to the torch or injury to the operator.
