The Smith SC930 Gas Axe™ is an extra-heavy-duty straight cutting torch engineered for the most demanding industrial environments, including salvage, shipbuilding, and massive structural demolition. Distinguished by its 36-inch length and 180-degree head angle, this torch is designed to keep the operator at a safe distance while delivering immense cutting power. The core of the SC930's performance lies in its In-Tip Mix technology. Unlike standard torches that mix gases in the handle or tubes, the SC930 keeps oxygen and fuel gas completely separate within three heavy-wall stainless steel tubes until they reach the cutting tip. This configuration drastically reduces the risk of flashback and eliminates mixing tube burnout, a common failure point in lesser torches.

The torch head is constructed from thick-wall Manganese Bronze, a material chosen for its exceptional resistance to heat warping and physical abuse. This ensures the seating surface remains true even after prolonged exposure to reflected heat from thick plate cutting. The SC930 utilizes Smith's proprietary SC Series Slip-In Tips, which feature resilient Graf-Tite® seat material. These soft seats compress to form a positive seal without the need for excessive torque, allowing for hand-tightened tip changes and protecting the head's seating surfaces from nicks and wear. This system extends the service life of the torch head significantly compared to metal-to-metal seating designs.

Operational precision is managed via stainless steel ball-style valves that provide linear flow adjustment and positive shut-off. The Ease-On cutting oxygen valve is a critical feature for deep cutting, allowing the operator to feather the oxygen stream to prevent key-holing and slag blow-back when piercing thick materials. With the capacity to cut up to 24 inches (610 mm) of steel using acetylene, or 20 inches (508 mm) with propane/natural gas, the SC930 stands as a pinnacle of oxy-fuel cutting capability.
