The Smith Equipment MC40-0 is a high-performance, medium-duty cutting tip engineered specifically for use with propane and natural gas fuel sources. As part of the renowned MC40 Series, this Size 0 tip is designed to deliver precise and efficient cutting on steel plates up to 3/8 inch (10 mm) thick. Unlike universal tips, the MC40-0 utilizes a specialized two-piece construction consisting of a brass inner member with splines and a copper outer shell. This design is critical for alternate fuels like propane, as it creates a recess at the tip end to anchor the flame, ensuring a stable and consistent preheat even in windy conditions or during rapid movements.

Technical Engineering & Safety

Safety and durability are at the forefront of the MC40-0 design. The tip features Smith's signature "in-tip mix" technology. By mixing the preheat oxygen and fuel gas within the tip itself rather than in the torch head or tube, the volume of explosive mixed gas is kept to an absolute minimum. This significantly reduces the potential for flashback and protects the operator and the equipment. Furthermore, the concave shape of the tip end helps prevent the tip from touching the work surface, reducing the risk of flameout and backfire. This tip is a direct fit for a wide range of Smith Equipment medium-duty cutting attachments and combination torches. It is compatible with the DG109A, MC505, MC509, CC509P, and AC309 cutting attachments, as well as DG200 and SC200 series assemblies. The medium preheat characteristic makes it an excellent general-purpose choice for fabrication shops, maintenance departments, and structural work where propane is the preferred fuel gas due to its economy and availability. Maintenance of the tip is simplified by the removable outer shell, allowing users to clean the splines and gas passages from the back, avoiding damage to the critical orifice shape at the front.
