At the core of the SC225's design is its safety-oriented Three Tube Construction. Unlike universal pressure torches that mix gases in the handle, this model utilizes separate tubes for the preheat oxygen, cutting oxygen, and fuel gas. Mixing occurs only within the tip itself (In-Tip Mix). This configuration significantly reduces the volume of mixed gas present in the system, thereby isolating the handle from potential flashbacks and enhancing operator safety. The internal tubing is reinforced to withstand the rigors of heavy industrial use.

Operational efficiency is maximized through the proprietary Slip-In Tip Design. The torch accepts Smith SC Series tips which feature Graf-Tite® soft seats. These resilient seats are constructed from a compressible material that forms a gas-tight seal with hand-tightening alone, eliminating the need for wrenches during tip changes. This design not only speeds up consumable replacement but also protects the torch head seating areas from the wear and nicking common with metal-to-metal seals. The high-pressure seat is removable, allowing for cleaning from the back of the tip.

Flow control is managed by Stainless Steel Ball-Style Valves equipped with PTFE packing. This ensures smooth adjustment, positive seating, and a leak-free service life. The torch also features an "Ease-on" cutting oxygen valve, which provides a graduated flow of cutting oxygen. This precise control allows for smooth piercing starts, reducing the violent reaction that causes keyholing and slag blowback. The torch is compatible with all industrial fuel gases, including acetylene, propane, natural gas, propylene, and hydrogen, making it a versatile addition to any fabrication or salvage operation.
