Unlike standard acetylene tips, the SC50-7 utilizes a specialized two-piece construction with a heavy preheat shell. This design is critical for Propane and Natural Gas, which have lower flame propagation rates than acetylene; the heavy preheat feature ensures the base metal reaches ignition temperature rapidly, even on massive plates and castings.
The SC50-7 is built with a removable outer shell and a precision-machined inner insert. This two-piece configuration not only optimizes the gas mixing for a high-intensity preheat flame but also simplifies maintenance. If the tip becomes clogged with slag or spatter during heavy piercing operations, the outer shell can be removed to easily clean the splines of the inner member. Please note that due to the high gas volume requirements for a Size 7 tip, it is NOT compatible with smaller attachments like the DG200 or SC200 (which max out at size 5), nor standard 2-hose machine torches (max size 6). Users must ensure their gas supply system—regulators, hoses, and cylinders—can supply the necessary volume to prevent starvation and backfires. When using liquid oxygen, manifolding may be required.
