OVERVIEW

Reliable Cutting Power for Farm and Shop

The Smith Toughcut Propane Cutting Outfit (MB54A-510LP) is the ultimate workhorse for farmers, ranchers, hobbyists, and tradesmen who demand reliability without the high cost of heavy-duty industrial systems. Designed to run on Propane or Natural Gas, this outfit offers a cost-effective and clean-burning alternative to acetylene, making it perfect for environments where utility and fuel availability are key. Whether you are repairing agricultural equipment, working on automotive restoration, or fabricating metal art, the Toughcut delivers consistent performance.

What sets this outfit apart is its user-friendly design combined with professional-grade durability. The kit features Smith's legendary Series 30 medium-duty regulators, known for their precision and rugged construction. You no longer need to struggle with wrench-tightened tips; the slip-in tip design allows you to change tips by hand in seconds, maximizing your uptime. The included Graf-Tite soft seats ensure a leak-proof seal every time, even if the tip seat has seen better days, reducing maintenance frustration.

Safety is paramount in the Toughcut design. The system utilizes in-tip mixing technology, which keeps the oxygen and fuel gas separate until they reach the tip itself. This significantly reduces the risk of flashback compared to tube-mixing torches. The package comes complete with everything you need to get started right out of the box, including a 20-foot T-grade hose (essential for propane safety), a friction lighter, and safety glasses. Capable of cutting up to 6 inches of steel with optional tips, this outfit is a versatile addition to any workshop.

FAQ

This outfit is specifically designed for use with Propane (LPG) or Natural Gas. It includes Grade-T hose and regulators calibrated for these fuels.

No. While the Grade-T hose is compatible with acetylene, the included regulator (CGA 510 for Propane) and the cutting tips are designed specifically for propane/natural gas pressures and flow characteristics. You would need different tips and potentially a different regulator setting/connection for acetylene.

The outfit is capable of cutting up to 6 inches (152 mm) of steel when equipped with the appropriate optional cutting tips. The included tip is typically for lighter gauge work.

No. Thanks to the Graf-Tite soft seat design and slip-in tip style, you can tighten the tips by hand. A wrench is only needed for the very first tightening to seat the material.

The kit includes regulator-mount check valves (H698). While check valves prevent reverse flow, they are not flashback arrestors. Flashback arrestors can be purchased separately if enhanced safety is required.

The regulators, cutting attachment, and torch handle are covered by the Miller/Smith True Blue 3-year warranty.

In-tip mixing combines the oxygen and fuel gas inside the tip rather than in the torch tubes. This improves safety by reducing the risk of flashback and eliminates mixing tube burnout.

It comes with the rugged Series 30 medium-duty regulators.
