The Smith SC50-4 is a premium heavy-duty cutting tip engineered specifically for use with alternate fuel gases such as propane and natural gas. Designed to meet the rigorous demands of industrial metal fabrication, scrap yards, and structural steel work, this size 4 tip provides a robust cutting capacity of approximately 3 inches (76mm). Unlike standard acetylene tips, the SC50 series utilizes a two-piece construction consisting of a brass outer shell and a copper inner insert. This design is critical for stabilizing the flame characteristics of slower-burning alternate fuels, ensuring efficient heat transfer and a clean cut.

One of the standout features of the SC50-4 is its heavy preheat capability. The tip is designed with aggressive preheat splines that generate a high volume of heat, making it exceptionally effective at cutting through steel that is covered in rust, mill scale, or paint. This reduces the time spent cleaning material prior to cutting and helps maintain a sustained cut speed even in less-than-ideal conditions. The tip also features a fully swaged interior, which smooths the gas flow to minimize turbulence.
