OVERVIEW

Technical Overview of the Miller Smith 310 Series Silverline Regulator

The Miller Smith 310 Series Silverline High Purity Regulator is a precision-engineered instrument designed specifically for the rigorous demands of specialty gas delivery. Engineered to handle corrosive, non-corrosive, and toxic gases, this single-stage regulator is constructed from high-grade 316 stainless steel bar stock. This material selection is critical for preventing contamination in high-purity systems and ensuring the structural integrity of the device when exposed to aggressive media. The regulator features a CGA 330 stainless steel inlet connection, making it compatible with specific corrosive gas cylinders typically used in laboratory and industrial chemical processes.

At the core of the 310 Series is a convoluted stainless steel diaphragm. Unlike elastomeric diaphragms that can degrade or outgas, the stainless steel diaphragm provides a non-contaminating, metal-to-metal seal with the body, ensuring maximum leak integrity—a paramount requirement when handling hazardous gases. The diaphragm's convoluted design allows for sensitive response to pressure changes, delivering a stable outlet pressure of 0-100 PSIG even as cylinder pressure decays. The seat assembly utilizes 316 PCTFE (Polychlorotrifluoroethylene), a material chosen for its exceptional chemical resistance and mechanical stability, further enhancing the regulator's longevity and reliability in corrosive environments.

Safety and system integration are key components of the 310 Series design. The bonnet is equipped with a captured vent port (1/16" FNPT), which allows for the safe piping of vented gases away from the work area in the unlikely event of a diaphragm failure. This feature is essential for compliance with safety protocols regarding toxic or asphyxiating gases. Additionally, the regulator includes a 316 stainless steel filtered seat to protect the internal mechanism from particulate contamination, ensuring sustained high-purity performance. The unit is versatile in installation, offering threaded bonnets for front panel mounting and tapped bodies for rear panel mounting, facilitating integration into gas cabinets and control panels.

The regulator is rated for a maximum inlet pressure of 3500 PSIG and is equipped with large, 2-1/2 inch single-scale gauges that provide clear, accurate readings of both inlet and delivery pressures. For optimal safety during cylinder changes, it is highly recommended to use this regulator in conjunction with a Cross Purge Assembly to effectively purge hazardous gas traces.
