The SDL995 General Purpose Welding Gloves are engineered to provide a sophisticated balance between heavy-duty protection and fine-motor dexterity. The construction utilizes a dual-leather approach: the back of the hand is crafted from premium grain cowhide, known for its tight fiber structure which offers excellent resistance to moisture, oil, and sparks while maintaining flexibility. Conversely, the palm is constructed from split cowhide leather. Split leather is naturally more porous and fibrous, providing superior grip and abrasion resistance where the glove contacts the workpiece or welding gun.
Structurally, the glove features a 6-inch gauntlet cuff. This extended length is critical for bridging the gap between the glove and the welding jacket, protecting the wrist and lower forearm from radiant heat and spatter. The seams are fully welted, meaning a strip of leather is inserted between the two pieces being sewn to protect the stitching from direct exposure to sparks and slag. Furthermore, the entire glove is stitched using DuPont® Kevlar® thread. Kevlar® is chosen for its high tensile strength and inherent flame resistance, ensuring the structural integrity of the glove is maintained even under high-heat conditions.
A key specification of the SDL995 is the unlined palm. While many heavy-duty gloves feature full cotton or foam linings for insulation, an unlined palm significantly reduces bulk. This allows for direct tactile feedback, essential for precise MIG gun trigger control or manipulating TIG filler rods in general-purpose applications. The thumb, a high-wear area, is reinforced to prevent premature failure, extending the service life of the PPE.
