FAQ

Generally, high-pressure steel cylinders require hydrostatic testing every 10 years (with a star stamp) or 5 years otherwise. Aluminum cylinders typically require testing every 5 years. Always check the latest date stamped on the shoulder of your cylinder.

If a cylinder fails the hydrostatic test or visual inspection, it is deemed unsafe for use. By law, it must be condemned and rendered unusable to prevent accidental filling. It cannot be returned to service.

This SKU covers the hydrostatic testing of the cylinder shell itself. Valves are inspected during the process, but if a valve is found to be defective, a replacement would typically be an additional cost.

No. This service is for High Pressure (HP) cylinders only (e.g., Oxygen, Argon, Nitrogen). Acetylene cylinders contain a porous mass and require a different type of inspection and requalification process.

Look at the shoulder of the cylinder for the date stamps. The most recent date indicates the last test. If the time elapsed exceeds the requalification period (usually 5 or 10 years), it needs retesting before it can be filled.

Yes, Josef Gas performs cylinder retesting to ensure strict quality control and faster turnaround times for our customers.

High Pressure cylinders typically have service pressures ranging from 1800 PSI to 6000 PSI. Common examples include K, T, S, and Q size cylinders used for welding and industrial gases.
