The Bernard N-5818C is a premium copper MIG welding nozzle designed specifically for the Centerfire™ consumable system. Engineered to meet the rigorous demands of industrial welding environments, this nozzle features a 5/8-inch (0.625") bore and positions the contact tip at a 1/8-inch recess. This configuration is widely regarded as the standard for general fabrication, offering an optimal balance between gas coverage and accessibility to the weld joint. The nozzle is compatible with a broad range of Bernard MIG guns, including the BTB (Best of the Best) platform, the legacy Q-Gun™ series, the S-Gun™, and Clean Air™ fume extraction guns.

A defining feature of the N-5818C is its integration into the Centerfire system, which utilizes a unique "drop-in" contact tip design. Unlike traditional threaded systems, the Centerfire nozzle holds the tip in place against the gas diffuser. This design creates a large, tapered seating surface that significantly improves electrical conductivity and heat transfer. By removing threads from the contact tip, the risk of cross-threading is eliminated, and changeovers can be performed quickly by hand without the need for pliers or wrenches.

Internally, the N-5818C is equipped with a built-in spatter shield. This component serves a dual purpose: it protects the gas diffuser from molten spatter accumulation and acts as a flow straightener to reduce gas turbulence. The result is a laminar shielding gas flow that effectively protects the weld pool from atmospheric contamination, reducing the likelihood of porosity and oxidation. The solid copper construction ensures maximum thermal conductivity, keeping the front-end consumables cooler during high-amperage welding cycles, thereby extending the service life of both the nozzle and the contact tip.

This nozzle is threaded at the base to secure firmly onto the D-1 gas diffuser, ensuring a solid, concentric relationship between the tip and nozzle. This concentricity is critical for maintaining a stable arc and consistent wire feeding, even after the gun has been subjected to the rough handling typical of heavy manufacturing environments.
