OVERVIEW

Reliable Wire Feeding for Tweco Fabricators

The Tweco 171435-005 Drive Roll Kit is an essential replacement component designed to maintain the peak performance of your MIG welding operations. Specifically engineered for the Tweco and Thermal Arc Fabricator series—including the popular 141i, 181i, 211i, and 252i multi-process welders—this drive roll ensures that your welding wire is fed smoothly and consistently through the liner to the contact tip. Inconsistent wire feeding is one of the most common causes of poor weld quality, leading to issues like burn-back, sputtering arcs, and irregular bead profiles. By utilizing genuine OEM drive rolls, you eliminate these variables and secure a stable arc for professional results.

This kit features a versatile dual-groove design. One side of the roll is machined for 0.035-inch (0.9 mm) wire, while the other accommodates 0.045-inch (1.2 mm) wire. This reversible functionality is incredibly convenient for shops that frequently switch between different wire gauges for various material thicknesses. The V-groove geometry is specifically optimized for solid steel wires (such as ER70S-6), providing the necessary grip to push the wire without deforming it or shaving off metal shavings that could clog your liner. Proper tensioning combined with the correct groove shape extends the life of your consumables and reduces downtime associated with wire feeding jams.

Installation is straightforward and tool-free on most compatible units. Simply remove the retention knob or screw, flip the roll to the desired size indicator facing inward (or as per your machine's manual), and re-secure. The durable steel construction of the 171435-005 ensures it withstands the friction and mechanical stress of daily welding, making it a long-lasting investment for your equipment maintenance. whether you are a hobbyist using a Fabricator 181i in a garage or a professional fabricating heavy structures with a 252i, this drive roll kit is the standard for reliability.

Key Benefits:

  • OEM Precision: Guaranteed fit for specified Tweco/Thermal Arc machines.
  • Versatility: Handles the two most common medium-to-heavy duty wire sizes.
  • Durability: Hardened steel resists wear from continuous wire friction.

FAQ

This kit is designed for Tweco and Thermal Arc Fabricator series welders, including the 141i, 181i, 211i, and 252i models.

This is a V-Groove drive roll, which is designed for solid hard wires (like mild steel or stainless). For flux-cored wire, a knurled drive roll is typically recommended.

The drive roll is reversible. You simply remove it from the hub, flip it over so the desired wire size groove is aligned with the wire path, and reinstall it.

It is not recommended. Aluminum wire is soft and usually requires a U-Groove drive roll to prevent deformation and shaving. This V-Groove kit is for steel.

Typically, this SKU includes the drive roll itself. You usually reuse the existing retention cap or screw from your welding machine's wire feed assembly.

Using a groove that is too large will cause slippage and erratic feeding. Using a groove that is too small may crush the wire or cause drag, leading to motor strain and liner issues.

Drive rolls should be replaced when the grooves become worn or lose their edge, causing wire slippage even when tension is correctly set. Visual inspection for wear patterns is recommended during routine maintenance.
