OVERVIEW

Precision Wire Feeding for Professional Fabrication

The Tweco 375980-030 Drive Roll Kit is an essential component for maintaining the performance and reliability of your MIG welding system. Designed specifically for use with Tweco and Thermal Arc Fabricator series power sources, this drive roll features a precision-engineered V-Groove geometry. V-Groove rolls are the industry standard for feeding solid wires, such as mild steel and stainless steel, as they provide two distinct points of contact that grip the wire firmly without deforming its cross-section or shaving the copper coating.

This particular kit is a reversible dual-groove unit, offering exceptional versatility for workshops that frequently switch between material thicknesses. One side of the roll is machined for 0.035-inch (0.9mm) wire, ideal for sheet metal and light structural work, while the opposing side accommodates 0.045-inch (1.2mm) wire for heavier plate applications. The ability to simply flip the roll to change wire sizes reduces tooling inventory and minimizes downtime during setup changes.

Manufactured from high-grade hardened steel, the 375980-030 is built to withstand the constant friction and mechanical stress of industrial wire feeding. A worn drive roll is a common, yet often overlooked, cause of erratic arc performance, burn-back, and birdnesting. By replacing your drive rolls at regular intervals or when signs of wear appear, you ensure consistent wire feed speeds, which is critical for achieving stable voltage and high-quality weld deposits. This component is compatible with 2-roll feed systems found in the Fabricator 181i, 211i, and 252i multi-process welding machines.

Proper installation involves aligning the desired wire size marking to face inward (or as specified by the machine manual) and securing the retention mechanism. This kit provides the reliability professional fabricators demand, ensuring that the wire is delivered to the contact tip smoothly and consistently, hour after hour.

FAQ

This V-Groove drive roll is designed specifically for solid wires, such as mild steel (ER70S-6) and stainless steel. It is not recommended for flux-cored or aluminum wires.

This is a dual-groove reversible roll that supports 0.035-inch (0.9mm) and 0.045-inch (1.2mm) wire diameters.

Technically you can, but it is not ideal. Flux-cored wire is softer and usually requires Knurled drive rolls (with teeth) to grab the wire without crushing it. V-Groove rolls may slip on flux-cored wire if tension is too loose, or crush it if too tight.

It is compatible with Tweco and Thermal Arc Fabricator series multi-process welders, such as the Fabricator 181i, 211i, and 252i.

The roll is reversible. Simply remove the retaining screw or knob, slide the roll off, flip it over so the groove for the desired wire size is aligned with the wire path, and reinstall.

Slippage can be caused by incorrect tension settings, a clogged liner, a worn contact tip, or using the wrong groove size for the wire diameter. Ensure your tension is set correctly—just tight enough to feed without slipping when blocked at the tip.

No. Aluminum wire is soft and requires U-Groove drive rolls to prevent deformation and shaving. Using V-Groove rolls on aluminum often leads to feeding issues.

The drive roll is machined from hardened steel to resist wear from the continuous friction of the welding wire.
