The Tweco 1260-1686 (Model EL22-50) is a premium gas nozzle engineered for the Tweco Eliminator series of MIG welding guns. This component is critical for shielding gas management in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) applications. The nozzle features a 1/2-inch (12.7 mm) bore orifice, which provides a balanced gas flow profile suitable for short-circuit, globular, and spray transfer modes with standard wire diameters ranging from 0.030" to 0.045".

A defining characteristic of the Eliminator series is the self-insulated design. Unlike traditional MIG front-end assemblies that require a separate insulator to electrically isolate the nozzle from the contact tip and diffuser, the EL22-50 integrates a high-temperature fiberglass insulator directly into the copper housing. This reduces the number of loose parts required for maintenance and ensures consistent concentricity between the contact tip and the nozzle bore. The slip-on connection mechanism utilizes a friction fit over the gas diffuser, allowing for rapid removal for spatter cleaning without the risk of seizing threads.

This specific model provides a 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) contact tip recess. A recessed tip configuration is advantageous in higher amperage applications as it keeps the contact tip further away from the arc and the molten weld pool, thereby reducing radiant heat absorption and minimizing the accumulation of spatter on the tip face. The nozzle is constructed from a robust copper alloy, selected for its superior thermal conductivity and resistance to mechanical deformation under thermal cycling.
