The Generic 10N28 Collet Body is a fundamental component designed for the front-end assembly of standard TIG welding torches. Engineered to accommodate 1/8-inch (3.2mm) tungsten electrodes, this collet body serves as the central hub for electrode positioning and current transfer. It is manufactured to precise dimensional standards, ensuring full compatibility with the widely used "3 Series" consumable system. This includes the popular air-cooled 17 and 26 series torches, as well as the water-cooled 18 series torches (often designated as WP-17, WP-18, and WP-26). The component is machined from a high-grade copper alloy, selected for its superior thermal and electrical conductivity, which is critical for maintaining arc stability and managing the heat generated during the welding process.

Functionally, the collet body performs two primary roles within the torch head. The 10N28 is designed with standard threading to mate with the torch body and accepts standard 10N-series ceramic cups. Its robust copper construction ensures durability under thermal cycling, although regular inspection is recommended. Over time, the threads or the seating surface for the collet may wear, leading to poor electrical contact or gas turbulence. Replacing the collet body is a standard maintenance procedure to restore optimal torch performance.
