OVERVIEW

Extreme Cutting Power with Arcair Slice Rods

The Arcair Slice Exothermic Cutting Rods (1/4" x 22") are the ultimate solution for industrial professionals facing cutting challenges that standard oxy-acetylene or plasma torches cannot handle. Unlike conventional thermal cutting processes that rely on a continuous electrical arc or a pre-heated flame to melt steel, the Slice system utilizes a self-sustaining exothermic reaction. Once ignited, the rod itself burns in a stream of pure oxygen, generating temperatures in excess of 10,000°F. This intense heat allows the user to cut, burn, or pierce through virtually any material, including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, and even non-ferrous materials like concrete, brick, and slag.

This package contains 100 flux-coated rods. The specialized flux coating is a critical feature of the 42-049-003 model. It serves multiple purposes: it insulates the rod to prevent side-arcing when working in deep holes or tight spaces, it helps stabilize the reaction, and it improves the fluidity of the molten material being removed. This makes these rods particularly effective for piercing tasks, such as removing frozen pins from heavy machinery or creating drainage holes in thick plate.

Designed for the Arcair Slice system, these 1/4-inch diameter rods offer a balance of flexibility and duration. The 22-inch length provides sufficient burn time to complete significant cuts without frequent rod changes, while still being manageable for the operator. Whether you are in bridge construction, mining, scrap processing, or emergency fire and rescue, these rods provide the reliable, high-temperature cutting power needed to clear obstructions and dismantle structures quickly.

Key Applications

  • Heavy Equipment Repair: Effortlessly remove seized pins, bushings, and bolts that cannot be hammered out.
  • Demolition and Scrap: Cut through mixed materials, including concrete-encased steel and mud-caked scrap.
  • Structural Maintenance: Pierce and cut bridge decking, structural beams, and rebar.

FAQ

Arcair Slice rods can cut virtually any material, including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, copper, magnesium, concrete, brick, and slag.

A welding machine or a 12V battery is only required to ignite the rod. Once ignited, the exothermic reaction is sustained by the flow of oxygen, and continuous electrical power is not needed.

The flux coating helps stabilize the arc during ignition, prevents the rod from shorting out against the side of the material when piercing deep holes, and improves the cutting action.

You need an Arcair Slice torch, a supply of oxygen (cylinder and regulator), and an ignition source (striker with 12V battery or welding power source).

This package (SKU 42049003) contains 100 flux-coated cutting rods.

These rods are 1/4 inch in diameter and 22 inches long.

While exothermic cutting is used underwater, these specific flux-coated rods are generally designed for surface applications. Specific underwater cutting rods are usually waterproofed.

The exothermic reaction generates temperatures in excess of 10,000°F, which is hot enough to melt or vaporize almost any material.
