The ESAB W4001400 is a specialized industrial coolant formulated for use in closed-loop liquid cooling systems found in welding and cutting equipment. Unlike standard water, which can introduce minerals and promote biological growth, or automotive antifreeze, which often contains conductive additives unsuitable for high-frequency welding environments, this coolant is engineered to maintain low electrical conductivity. This property is critical in preventing high-voltage leakage in TIG torches and plasma cutters, which can lead to premature torch failure or arc instability.

The mixture is supplied in a 5-liter (approximately 1.32 gallon) container and is pre-mixed, requiring no dilution. It features a propylene glycol base enhanced with a proprietary additive package. These additives serve three primary technical functions: corrosion inhibition, biological control, and pump lubrication. The corrosion inhibitors protect yellow metals (brass, copper) and aluminum components within the heat exchanger and torch head from galvanic corrosion. The biocide agents prevent the formation of algae and bacterial slime, which are common causes of flow restriction and pump overheating in neglected systems.

Furthermore, the fluid's thermal properties are optimized for heat transfer efficiency, ensuring that high-amperage torches remain within their operating temperature limits during extended duty cycles. The formulation also provides freeze protection, safeguarding the cooling unit during storage or transport in sub-freezing temperatures.
