The Magnaflux Spotcheck® SKD-S2 is a premium, non-aqueous solvent-based developer designed for critical non-destructive testing (NDT) applications. Technically, SKD-S2 functions through a combination of solvent action and capillary adsorption. The solvent carrier—typically an alcohol blend—rapidly wets the surface and evaporates quickly, leaving behind a uniform layer of white developer particles. As the solvent evaporates, it helps to draw (wick) the penetrant from within surface-breaking defects up to the surface, where it spreads into the developer layer. This process amplifies the indication, making the defect appear larger and more distinct against the white background. The formulation is carefully balanced to ensure compatibility with both Type 1 (fluorescent) and Type 2 (visible dye) penetrant systems, although it is most commonly associated with the visible red dye penetrant process (Method C).
