Advanced Surface Passivation for Stainless Steel

The Antox 90E Passivating Solution Paste is a specialized chemical formulation designed to accelerate the passivation process of stainless steel surfaces. In industrial fabrication, the natural formation of the passive chromium oxide layer—which gives stainless steel its corrosion-resistant properties—can take days or weeks to fully develop after mechanical abrasion or chemical pickling. Antox 90E eliminates this vulnerability by chemically forcing the immediate restoration of this protective layer, ensuring the substrate is sealed against environmental contaminants and oxidation.

This 5 kg jar contains a concentrated paste that is intended to be diluted in a 1:1 ratio with de-ionized water before application. It is particularly effective when used as a follow-up treatment to the Antox 71E or similar pickling pastes. While pickling removes scale, heat tint, and impurities, it leaves the surface active and exposed. The application of Antox 90E neutralizes any remaining acid residues and promotes rapid oxidation of the surface chromium, effectively "healing" the steel's surface. The paste consistency allows for application on vertical or overhead surfaces without excessive runoff, ensuring adequate contact time.

Technical Application and Safety

For optimal results, the solution should be applied to clean, rinsed surfaces. The recommended reaction time is between 20 to 30 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and steel grade. Following the reaction period, the surface must be thoroughly rinsed with high-pressure water to remove all chemical traces. As with all industrial chemical treatments, proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including acid-resistant gloves, face shields, and aprons, must be worn during handling and application. This product is essential for fabrication shops adhering to strict ASTM or EN standards for stainless steel finishing.
