The Miller Maxstar 280 (907538) is a high-performance DC TIG and Stick welding power source designed for industrial applications requiring precision, portability, and power reliability. Engineered with Miller's proprietary Auto-Line™ Power Management Technology, this inverter-based machine automatically connects to any single-phase or three-phase input voltage ranging from 208V to 575V without manual linking. Weighing in at just 47 pounds, the Maxstar 280 is built for mobility. It features dual carry handles and an adjustable shoulder strap, allowing operators to easily transport the unit around large fabrication shops or remote construction sites. Despite its compact footprint, it delivers a robust output of up to 280 amps, capable of welding steel materials up to 3/8-inch thick. The unit includes a Cooler Power Supply (CPS), an integrated 120-volt dedicated-use receptacle designed to power the Coolmate™ 1.3 water cooler. The power switch on the Maxstar simultaneously activates the receptacle, preventing torch failure due to lack of coolant flow.

The interface is designed for efficiency and ease of use. The Pro-Set™ feature eliminates guesswork by providing professionally optimized settings for Balance, Frequency, Pulse, and DIG parameters with a simple selection. For Stick welding, the machine offers tailored arc control (DIG) to adjust arc characteristics for specific electrodes, such as smooth-running 7018 or penetrating 6010. Hot Start™ adaptive control ensures positive arc starts without sticking, while the Stick-Stuck feature detects electrode adhesion and safely turns off output for easy removal. The front panel also includes a memory card data port, enabling easy software upgrades and feature expansions.
