OVERVIEW

Industrial Precision with Waveform Control Technology

The Lincoln Electric Power Wave 455M/STT CE (K2203-2) represents the pinnacle of high-performance industrial welding technology. Designed for heavy fabrication environments that demand both raw power and extreme precision, this power source integrates Lincoln’s proprietary Waveform Control Technology®. This allows manufacturers to select and fine-tune specific arc characteristics for a wide variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and nickel alloys. By manipulating the arc waveform, the Power Wave 455M/STT optimizes the weld bead profile, reduces spatter, and enhances overall weld quality, leading to significant reductions in post-weld cleanup and rework costs.

The STT Advantage

What sets the K2203-2 apart is the integrated Surface Tension Transfer (STT®) process capability. STT is a controlled short-circuit transfer process that adjusts the welding current independently of the wire feed speed. This results in a low-heat input weld that is ideal for open root passes on pipe or thin-gauge material. Traditionally, TIG welding was required for high-quality root passes, which is a slower process. With the Power Wave 455M/STT, operators can achieve TIG-quality root welds at MIG welding speeds, drastically improving throughput in pipe fabrication shops and structural applications. The CE designation ensures this unit meets European Conformity standards, making it suitable for international projects requiring specific voltage inputs (typically 230/400V) and safety compliance.

Connectivity and Efficiency

In the era of Industry 4.0, the Power Wave 455M/STT stands out with its digital connectivity. Featuring ArcLink® digital communication, the power source communicates seamlessly with compatible wire feeders, ensuring that the wire feed speed and voltage are perfectly synchronized. Furthermore, the built-in Ethernet connection allows for integration with Lincoln’s CheckPoint™ production monitoring software. This enables facility managers to track weld data, monitor productivity, and store weld parameters in the cloud. The inverter-based design also provides high electrical efficiency, operating at a power factor of 0.95, which lowers energy bills compared to traditional transformer-rectifier machines. Built to withstand harsh industrial environments, the unit features potted PC boards and a robust case design, ensuring longevity and reliability in the toughest conditions.
