OVERVIEW

High-Performance Aluminum Welding Wire for Industrial Fabrication

The Lincoln Electric SuperGlaze 4043 Aluminum MIG Wire (ED029234) is a premium filler metal designed to address the common challenges associated with welding aluminum. Engineered with Lincoln's proprietary SuperGlaze surface finish, this wire significantly reduces friction within the welding gun liner and contact tip. This advanced surface treatment ensures superior feedability, minimizing the risk of bird-nesting and tangling that can often disrupt production in automated or manual MIG processes. For industrial fabricators working with 6XXX series alloys, this wire provides a reliable, high-productivity solution that maintains consistent arc stability and wire placement.

As an ER4043 classification wire, it is composed of an aluminum-silicon alloy (typically 5% silicon). This chemical composition lowers the melting point of the filler metal and increases fluidity, making it exceptionally easy to control the weld puddle. The added silicon also plays a critical role in reducing hot cracking sensitivity, which is a common issue when welding heat-treatable base materials like 6061-T6. The wire produces a bright, clean weld bead with excellent wetting characteristics, ensuring a professional finish with minimal post-weld cleanup required. It is also suitable for welding high-silicon cast aluminum grades such as A356.

This 20 lb (9.07 kg) spool comes in a 3/64" diameter, a standard size for medium-to-heavy duty fabrication tasks. It is designed for use with Direct Current Electrode Positive (DC+) polarity and requires 100% Argon or Argon/Helium mixed shielding gas for optimal results. Whether used for manufacturing automotive frames, drive shafts, or bicycle components, the Lincoln SuperGlaze 4043 delivers the mechanical properties and operational consistency required for critical structural welds.

Key Technical Benefits

  • Optimized Feedability: The smooth surface finish reduces liner friction, preventing feeding issues common in soft aluminum wires.
  • Crack Resistance: Silicon content helps mitigate solidification cracking in heat-treatable alloys.
  • Versatile Application: Ideal for joining 6XXX series wrought alloys and various cast aluminum grades.
  • Superior Bead Profile: High fluidity results in flat, smooth beads with excellent tie-in at the toes of the weld.

FAQ

It is excellent for welding 6XXX series alloys (like 6061) and most casting alloys, as well as other heat-treatable base materials.

For best results, use 100% Argon or an Argon/Helium mixture. Carbon dioxide (CO2) should never be used with aluminum.

It is generally not recommended to use 4043 on 5XXX series alloys (especially those with high magnesium) due to potential reduction in ductility and corrosion resistance. ER5356 is usually preferred for 5XXX series.

This specific product (ED029234) has a diameter of 3/64 inch (approximately 0.047 inches or 1.2 mm).

SuperGlaze features a proprietary surface finish that is ultra-smooth, reducing friction in the liner and improving feedability, which is critical for soft aluminum wires.

ER4043 wire typically turns a dark gray color after the anodizing process. If color matching is critical for anodized parts, ER5356 is a better choice.

This wire is designed for use with DC+ (Direct Current Electrode Positive) polarity.

This product comes on a 20 lb (9.07 kg) plastic spool.
