OVERVIEW

Premium ER4043 Aluminum TIG Filler Metal

The Nexalloy 4043 Aluminum TIG Rod is a high-performance filler metal designed to meet the rigorous demands of industrial aluminum welding. Classified as ER4043 under AWS A5.10 standards, this rod is formulated with approximately 5% silicon. This specific alloying element significantly lowers the melting point of the filler metal relative to the base material, thereby increasing fluidity and wetting action during the welding process. This characteristic makes the 4043 alloy the preferred choice for welders seeking to minimize solidification cracking, a common issue when welding heat-treatable aluminum alloys.

Specifically engineered for welding 6000 series aluminum alloys (such as 6061 and 6063) as well as cast aluminum alloys like 356.0, this rod provides a versatile solution for a wide range of fabrication and repair tasks. The 2.5mm diameter offers a precise balance between deposition rate and heat control, making it suitable for medium-gauge materials where a 1.6mm rod might be too thin and a 3.2mm rod too heavy. The 36-inch cut lengths are standard for manual Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and allow for consistent feeding without frequent interruptions.

One of the critical technical advantages of the Nexalloy 4043 is its ability to produce bright, clean welds with less smut compared to magnesium-alloyed fillers like 5356. While 4043 has a lower tensile strength and ductility than 5356, its superior flow characteristics and reduced crack sensitivity make it the safer, more reliable option for general fabrication where anodizing color match is not a primary concern. The rods are chemically cleaned and processed to ensure a contaminant-free surface, reducing the risk of porosity in the final weldment. Packaged in a durable 10lb tube, these rods are protected from moisture and environmental contaminants during storage.

For industrial applications requiring reliable mechanical properties and ease of use, Nexalloy's strict quality control ensures consistent diameter, chemistry, and surface finish. This attention to detail translates to stable arc characteristics and predictable weld pool behavior, essential for high-quality production environments.

FAQ

4043 contains silicon, which makes it flow better and reduces crack sensitivity, making it ideal for 6000 series alloys. 5356 contains magnesium, offering higher tensile strength and better color matching for anodizing, but is more prone to cracking on some alloys.

You can, but the weld area will turn dark gray after the anodizing process due to the silicon content. If color matching is critical, ER5356 is recommended instead.

Aluminum TIG welding is performed using AC (Alternating Current) to provide the necessary cleaning action to break up the aluminum oxide layer.

It is very close but not identical. 3/32 inch is approximately 2.38mm. A 2.5mm rod is slightly thicker, providing slightly more filler metal per dip.

It is primarily used for welding 6xxx series alloys (like 6061, 6063), 3xxx series, and cast alloys like 43, 355, 356, and 214.

No, when TIG welding (GTAW) with argon shielding gas, no flux is required. The AC cleaning action of the welder removes the oxides.

100% Argon is the standard shielding gas for TIG welding aluminum with this rod. Helium mixtures can be used for thicker sections.

Store in a cool, dry place. Keep the tube closed when not in use to prevent dust, oil, and moisture contamination which can cause weld porosity.
