
The ESAB OK Autrod 316LSi is a continuous, solid, corrosion-resistant chromium-nickel-molybdenum wire designed for the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) of austenitic stainless alloys. Specifically formulated for alloys of the 18% Cr - 8% Ni and 18% Cr - 10% Ni - 3% Mo types, this wire meets AWS ER316LSi classifications. The metallurgy of this consumable is distinct due to its higher silicon content compared to standard 316L wires. This elevated silicon level significantly improves the welding properties, particularly wetting action, which facilitates a smoother bead profile and better tie-in at the weld toes.
Corrosion resistance is a critical parameter for this alloy. The OK Autrod 316LSi exhibits very good general corrosion resistance, especially in acid and chlorinated environments, making it suitable for harsh industrial applications. Furthermore, the alloy features an extra-low carbon content (L-grade), which is essential for minimizing the risk of intergranular corrosion (carbide precipitation) in the heat-affected zone. This makes the wire particularly recommended for applications where the welded component will be exposed to corrosive media without post-weld heat treatment.
The wire is supplied on a 12-inch diameter spool weighing 33 lbs (approximately 15 kg), suitable for industrial wire feeders. It is designed for use with shielding gases such as Argon/CO2 mixtures or Argon/Oxygen mixtures to ensure arc stability and optimal metallurgical properties in the deposited weld metal.
