The Hobart 316LSi (Hi Sil) .045" MIG Welding Wire is a high-performance filler metal designed for critical industrial applications requiring superior corrosion resistance and excellent weldability. This wire is classified as ER316LSi under AWS standards, indicating a modification of the standard 316L alloy with a higher silicon content. The increased silicon level serves to lower the surface tension of the molten weld pool, significantly improving wetting action. This results in a flatter bead profile with smooth transitions to the base metal, reducing the need for post-weld grinding and finishing.

Metallurgically, this wire retains the molybdenum content characteristic of the 316 series, which provides exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride-containing environments. The "L" designation signifies a low carbon content (maximum 0.03%), which is crucial for preventing carbide precipitation during the welding process. This feature ensures the weldment maintains its corrosion resistance even after exposure to elevated temperatures, protecting against intergranular corrosion. It is specifically formulated for joining Type 316 and 316L stainless steels but is also frequently used for Type 304 and 304L applications where molybdenum is desired.
