The Lucas-Milhaupt Silvaloy 450 is a premium 45% silver brazing alloy designed for professional industrial applications requiring strong, ductile, and leak-proof joints. Recognized under the AWS classification BAg-1, this alloy is formulated with a specific composition of silver, copper, zinc, and cadmium to achieve the lowest melting temperature of any standard silver brazing filler metal. This low melting point (Solidus 1125°F, Liquidus 1145°F) is a critical advantage when working with base metals that are susceptible to grain growth, distortion, or annealing at higher temperatures.
Silvaloy 450 is characterized by its exceptionally narrow melting range, which allows the alloy to flow quickly and freely into tight capillary spaces. This "free-flowing" nature makes it the preferred choice for production environments where speed and economy are essential. It exhibits excellent wetting properties on a wide variety of ferrous and non-ferrous substrates, including steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, and bronze. The resulting joints are not only mechanically strong but also offer high electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for demanding environments.
This product is supplied in a 5 oz coil with a 1/16" (1.6mm) diameter, providing a practical quantity for maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) tasks or small-scale fabrication. The coil format allows the operator to easily feed the wire during manual torch brazing operations. Due to its cadmium content, appropriate safety ventilation and respiratory protection are required during use. It is widely utilized in the manufacturing of tubular assemblies, electrical contacts, and precision instruments where heat control is paramount.
