OVERVIEW

High-Purity BAg-7 Silver Brazing Filler Metal

The Lucas-Milhaupt Silvaloy 560 is a premium, cadmium-free silver brazing alloy designed for applications requiring high joint strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and safety compliance. Classified as BAg-7 under AWS A5.8 standards, this alloy contains 56% silver, balanced with copper, zinc, and tin. The addition of tin promotes superior wetting action, particularly on stainless steel, while maintaining the lowest melting temperature of any cadmium-free silver braze. This characteristic helps minimize heat input, reducing the risk of distortion or metallurgical damage to the base materials.

This 1kg coil of 2.4mm wire is engineered for industrial environments where precision and reliability are paramount. Because it is free of cadmium, Silvaloy 560 is the preferred choice for fabricating equipment used in food processing, medical devices, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. It flows freely into tight capillary spaces but has a narrow enough melting range to allow for some bridging capabilities when necessary. It is compatible with a broad spectrum of base metals, including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, nickel, and their alloys.

Technical Specifications & Compliance

Silvaloy 560 transitions from solid to liquid between 1145°F (618°C) and 1205°F (652°C). This low working temperature makes it an excellent replacement for older, hazardous cadmium-bearing alloys like BAg-1 without sacrificing flow performance. For optimal results, it should be used with a high-quality flux appropriate for the base metal being joined. The alloy produces joints that are ductile, leak-tight, and visually appealing, often matching the color of stainless steel closely.

FAQ

Yes, Silvaloy 560 is a cadmium-free alloy, making it safer for use in food and medical applications compared to BAg-1 alloys.

This product is classified as BAg-7 according to AWS A5.8 standards.

A general-purpose white flux or a black flux (for high-temperature or prolonged heating) is recommended, depending on the base metal and heating cycle.

Yes, Silvaloy 560 is excellent for stainless steel due to its tin content, which improves wetting and color match.

It has a solidus of 1145°F (618°C) and a liquidus of 1205°F (652°C).

Yes, because it is cadmium-free, it is frequently used for fabricating food handling and processing equipment.

The wire diameter is 2.4mm (approximately 3/32 inches).

Silvaloy 560 is formulated as a silver-copper-zinc-tin alloy and does not contain lead as an alloying element.
