OVERVIEW

Premium High-Silver Brazing Alloy for Critical Applications

The Lucas-Milhaupt Silvalloy 560 is a premier 56% silver brazing alloy designed for applications requiring the highest quality joints, excellent corrosion resistance, and strict safety compliance. As a cadmium-free filler metal (AWS BAg-7), it is the industry standard for manufacturing food processing equipment, medical devices, and pharmaceutical machinery where toxic constituents must be avoided. Its high silver content ensures a close color match with stainless steel, making it ideal for visible joints in architectural or decorative fabrication.

This alloy features the lowest melting point of all cadmium-free silver brazing filler metals, with a liquidus of 1205°F (652°C). This low temperature range minimizes the heat input required, thereby reducing the risk of distortion, discoloration, or metallurgical damage to the base materials. It exhibits exceptional fluidity, allowing it to penetrate tight clearances and form strong, leak-proof joints on a wide variety of metals, including steel, stainless steel, copper, and nickel alloys.

Key Applications

  • Food & Beverage: Safe for use in equipment that comes into contact with food products due to its cadmium-free composition.
  • Medical Instruments: High purity and corrosion resistance make it suitable for surgical and medical device fabrication.
  • Stainless Steel Fabrication: Provides a neat, silver-white fillet that blends seamlessly with stainless base metals.

Supplied in a convenient 1 troy ounce coil with a 1.6mm (approx. 1/16") diameter, this product is perfect for maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) tasks or small-scale production runs. For best results, use with Handy Flux or similar high-quality brazing flux to ensure proper wetting and oxide removal.

FAQ

Silvalloy 560 is classified as AWS A5.8 BAg-7.

No, Silvalloy 560 is a cadmium-free alloy, making it safer for use in food and medical applications compared to older cadmium-bearing solders.

It has a solidus temperature of 1145°F (618°C) and a liquidus temperature of 1205°F (652°C).

Yes, it is an excellent choice for stainless steel due to its good color match and corrosion resistance. It is often used for 300 and 400 series stainless steels.

A general-purpose silver brazing flux, such as Handy Flux, is typically recommended to ensure proper wetting and oxide removal during the brazing process.

No, Silvalloy 560 is designed for copper, brass, steel, and stainless steel. It is not suitable for brazing aluminum or magnesium.

The wire diameter is 1.6mm, which is approximately 1/16 of an inch.

The high silver content lowers the melting point, improves flow and ductility, and increases corrosion resistance, making it ideal for critical joints.
