OVERVIEW

High-Performance Low Fuming Bronze Brazing Rods

The Techniweld Bare Bronze Low Fume 1.6mm (1/16") brazing rod is a premium general-purpose oxy-fuel filler metal designed for high-strength joining and surfacing. Classified under AWS A5.8 as RBCuZn-C, this alloy is chemically balanced to minimize zinc vaporization (fuming) during the brazing process. This reduction in fumes not only improves operator comfort and safety but also ensures a clearer view of the weld pool, allowing for more precise manipulation of the molten metal.

Metallurgically, this rod is a copper-zinc alloy fortified with small additions of iron, tin, and manganese. The iron content increases the tensile strength of the deposit, often exceeding 60,000 psi, while tin improves the fluidity and tinning action of the alloy, ensuring it wets out smoothly on the base metal. Manganese acts as a deoxidizer and further strengthens the bond. This combination makes it an exceptional choice for maintenance and repair operations where reliability is paramount.

These bare rods require the use of a suitable brazing flux (typically borax-based) to remove oxides and promote wetting. They are highly effective for joining steel, copper alloys, nickel alloys, and cast iron. The deposit is easily machinable, making it ideal for building up worn surfaces on shafts, gears, and valve seats. Whether used for structural repairs or surfacing applications, Techniweld's low fuming bronze delivers consistent, porosity-free results.

FAQ

This rod is classified as RBCuZn-C, commonly known as Low Fuming Bronze.

Yes, because this is a bare rod, you must use an external brazing flux (usually borax-based) to clean the metal and ensure proper bonding.

It is suitable for joining steel, cast iron, copper, copper alloys, nickel, and nickel alloys. It is also excellent for joining dissimilar metals.

The solidus temperature is approximately 1590°F (866°C) and the liquidus is around 1630°F (888°C).

It contains specific alloying elements like manganese and silicon that suppress the vaporization of zinc, reducing the white smoke typically associated with brass brazing.

While primarily designed for oxy-fuel brazing, RBCuZn-C can sometimes be used for TIG brazing with AC current, though specific silicon bronze (ERCuSi-A) is usually preferred for TIG.

Yes, the bronze deposit is soft enough to be easily machined, filed, or drilled, making it perfect for building up worn parts.

This specific product is 1.6mm, which is approximately 1/16 of an inch.
