OVERVIEW

High-Performance Super Duplex Welding Consumable

The Exocor E2594-16 is a premium coated stick electrode designed specifically for the welding of Super Duplex stainless steels, such as UNS S32750 and S32760. Engineered to meet the rigorous demands of industries operating in aggressive environments, this electrode provides a weld metal with a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) typically greater than 40. This high PREN value ensures exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride-rich environments like seawater and chemical processing plants.

Metallurgically, the E2594-16 deposits a microstructure consisting of an approximate 50/50 balance of austenite and ferrite, which is critical for maintaining the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance characteristic of super duplex alloys. The electrode formulation offers high tensile strength (often exceeding 110,000 psi) and excellent ductility. It is manufactured with a rutile-basic coating that supports a stable arc, low spatter generation, and self-releasing slag, facilitating high-quality radiographic welds.

This consumable is suitable for joining super duplex steels to themselves or to lower alloyed stainless steels. It is widely utilized in the fabrication of pumps, valves, pipework, and heat exchangers in the offshore oil and gas, desalination, and petrochemical sectors. Proper storage in a dry environment or rod oven is recommended to maintain the low-hydrogen characteristics of the coating.

FAQ

This electrode meets the AWS A5.4 classification for E2594-16.

It is designed for Super Duplex stainless steels like UNS S32750 (2507) and S32760 (Zeron 100). It can also be used to weld Super Duplex to lower grades of stainless.

Yes, like most stainless and low-hydrogen electrodes, it is best stored in a rod oven or a dry environment to prevent moisture pickup which can cause porosity.

Yes, this electrode is designed to run on both AC and DC+ current, so it is compatible with most stick welding machines.

For a 1/8" (3.2mm) E2594 electrode, the typical amperage range is between 80 and 120 amps, depending on position and material thickness.

Super Duplex offers higher strength and significantly better corrosion resistance (higher PREN) than standard Duplex (2205), making it suitable for more aggressive environments.

No, the E2594-16 coating is formulated for easy slag release, often detaching with minimal effort.
