The Lincoln Electric SuperArc LA-90 is a premium quality, copper-coated solid wire classified under AWS A5.28 as ER80S-D2. Designed for the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process, this wire is engineered to join high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels. The chemical composition includes approximately 0.50% Molybdenum and elevated levels of Manganese, which work together to provide excellent tensile strength in the range of 80,000 to 90,000 psi (550-620 MPa). This alloy composition also ensures the weld deposit retains its mechanical properties even after post-weld heat treatment (stress relief).

A defining technical feature of the SuperArc line is the MicroGuard Ultra surface treatment. This proprietary coating minimizes friction within the welding gun liner and contact tip, ensuring consistent wire feeding even over long conduit runs. The wire diameter is 0.045 inches, suitable for all-position welding depending on the transfer mode utilized. It supports short-circuiting, globular, axial spray, and pulsed spray transfer, offering versatility across various industrial setups.
