OVERVIEW

Economical Copper Brazing Solution

The Harris 0 Phos-Copper Brazing Rod (Model 050R) is a premium-quality, economical filler metal designed primarily for copper-to-copper joining applications. As a BCuP-2 classification alloy, Harris 0 is formulated with approximately 7.1% phosphorus, which acts as a fluxing agent when brazing copper. This self-fluxing property simplifies the brazing process for HVAC technicians and plumbers, significantly reducing preparation time and material costs on the job site.

This 25 lb bulk package is ideal for high-volume industrial environments, fabrication shops, and large-scale mechanical contracting projects. The 3/32" diameter rods are 20 inches in length, providing ample material for continuous work without frequent rod changes. The alloy is extremely fluid when molten, allowing it to penetrate tight clearances (0.002" to 0.007") effectively through capillary action. It is widely used for brazing copper tubing, headers, and other copper assemblies where moderate fit-up tolerances are maintained.

While Harris 0 is an excellent choice for copper, it can also be used on brass (copper-zinc alloys) and bronze with the application of an appropriate brazing flux, such as Stay-Silv® white flux. However, it should never be used on ferrous metals (steel, iron) or nickel alloys, as the phosphorus content can form brittle intermetallic compounds that compromise joint integrity. For reliable, leak-proof joints in plumbing and refrigeration systems, Harris 0 remains a standard industry choice.

FAQ

No, Harris 0 is self-fluxing on copper-to-copper joints due to its phosphorus content.

No, phosphorus-bearing alloys like Harris 0 should not be used on ferrous metals as they form brittle phosphides that weaken the joint.

This rod meets the AWS A5.8 classification for BCuP-2.

Harris 0 has a solidus of 1310°F (710°C) and a liquidus of 1475°F (802°C).

Yes, Harris 0 can be used to braze brass, but you must apply a brazing flux (like Stay-Silv white flux) because the self-fluxing action only works on copper.

This specific SKU (050R) is a 25 lb bulk package.

These rods are 3/32 inches in diameter and 20 inches long.

No, Harris 0 is a phos-copper alloy containing approximately 7.1% phosphorus and the balance copper; it contains 0% silver.
