It is designed to provide a sound, high-strength mechanical base for subsequent hardfacing layers. Unlike many hardfacing consumables that are restricted to a limited number of passes, Hardalloy 32 is not limited to a maximum number of layers, allowing for extensive dimensional restoration of severely worn components without the risk of cracking.
This electrode exhibits high compressive strength, making it an excellent underbase for harder, more abrasion-resistant overlay alloys. By providing a tough cushion, it prevents the harder top layers from spalling or cracking under heavy impact loads. The weld deposit produced by Hardalloy 32 is machinable in the as-welded condition using carbide tools, which is essential for applications requiring precise dimensional tolerances after the build-up process. It offers good resistance to cracking even in complex, multiple-pass deposits.
Hardalloy 32 is formulated for versatility in the shop or field, operating efficiently on both DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive) and AC (Alternating Current). The 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) diameter electrode provides stable arc characteristics and is suitable for welding in Flat, Horizontal, and Vertical Up positions. Packaged in a 10 lb hermetically sealed can, the electrodes are protected from moisture absorption, ensuring consistent weld quality and low hydrogen levels.
This product is widely used in the construction and mining industries for the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment. Common applications include the rebuilding of bucket teeth and lips, coupling boxes, crane wheels, dragline buckets and chains, dredge ladder rolls, gear teeth, grizzly bars, kiln trunnions, mine car wheels, steel shafts, and tractor idlers and rollers.
