The Josef OW60 is a premium-grade, open-arc flux-cored wire designed specifically for hardfacing applications where severe abrasion is the primary wear factor. Engineered with a high-chromium carbide alloy system, this wire deposits a weld metal that is extremely hard and wear-resistant, typically achieving a hardness of 55-60 HRC. It is the ideal solution for extending the service life of industrial components subjected to grinding, scratching, and gouging wear.
This 1/16" (1.6mm) diameter wire is supplied on an 11.36kg (25lb) spool, making it compatible with standard industrial wire feeders. As an open-arc wire, the Josef OW60 does not require an external shielding gas, which significantly simplifies setup and increases portability for field repairs. The internal flux formulation generates its own protective atmosphere, ensuring sound deposits with minimal porosity. This feature is particularly advantageous for on-site maintenance of heavy equipment where transporting gas cylinders is impractical.
The deposit characteristics of the OW60 include a high concentration of primary chromium carbides in an austenitic matrix. This microstructure provides exceptional resistance to low-stress abrasion and moderate impact. It is commonly used for overlaying carbon and low-alloy steels. Due to its high hardness, the deposit is not machinable and must be finished by grinding if necessary. It is recommended to limit buildup to two or three layers to prevent relief check cracking, which is normal and desirable in this type of hardfacing to relieve stress.
