The silicon content acts as a deoxidizer, promoting sound welds with high tensile strength (minimum 50,000 psi) and excellent corrosion resistance. It is particularly valuable in maintenance and repair operations (MRO) where base metal identity may be uncertain or where a ductile, crack-resistant deposit is required.
