Harris ERCuSi-A Silicon Bronze TIG Rod Overview

The Harris ERCuSi-A Silicon Bronze TIG Rod is a premium copper-based filler metal designed for the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process. Engineered with a precise chemical composition comprising approximately 3% silicon and small amounts of manganese, tin, and zinc, this rod offers exceptional fluidity and a relatively low melting point (Solidus 1780° F, Liquidus 1880° F). It is manufactured to strictly conform to ANSI/AWS A5.7 and ASME SFA-5.7 ERCuSi-A standards, ensuring consistent metallurgical performance in critical industrial applications.

This filler metal is renowned for its versatility in joining dissimilar metals. It effectively welds steel and cast iron to copper, brass, and bronze alloys. The silicon content acts as a deoxidizer, promoting sound welds with high tensile strength (minimum 50,000 psi) and excellent corrosion resistance. It is particularly valuable in maintenance and repair operations (MRO) where base metal identity may be uncertain or where a ductile, crack-resistant deposit is required. The rod is supplied in a 10lb tube, with each rod measuring 36 inches in length and a diameter of 3/32" (nominally 2.5mm).

Metallurgically, the Harris Silicon Bronze rod minimizes heat input into the base material due to its lower melting range compared to steel fillers. This characteristic reduces the heat-affected zone (HAZ) and minimizes thermal distortion, making it an excellent choice for surfacing areas subjected to corrosive environments. It is designed for use with 100% Argon shielding gas and typically operates on DC- (Straight Polarity), although specific procedures may vary based on the substrate.
