OVERVIEW

Industrial Grade E6011 Electrodes for AC Welding

The Hobart 335A is a premium cellulosic stick electrode designed to bridge the gap between industrial performance and AC power source compatibility. Classified as an AWS E6011, this electrode is engineered to deliver the deep, digging penetration characteristics typically associated with E6010 rods, but with a specialized coating that stabilizes the arc for Alternating Current (AC) welding. This makes it an indispensable consumable for maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) environments where power source options may be limited or where magnetic arc blow is a concern.

One of the defining features of the Hobart 335A is its aggressive arc force. This characteristic allows the electrode to cut through surface contaminants such as heavy rust, mill scale, paint, dirt, and galvanized coatings with ease. By burning through these impurities, the 335A ensures sound fusion into the base metal, reducing the need for extensive pre-weld cleaning and grinding. This efficiency is critical in repair sectors such as shipbuilding, railroad car maintenance, and general structural fabrication where time and surface preparation are major cost factors.

Mechanically, the electrode offers a fast-freezing weld puddle. This rapid solidification is essential for out-of-position welding, allowing operators to perform vertical-up and overhead welds without the molten pool sagging or dripping. While primarily optimized for AC, the Hobart 335A also performs exceptionally well on Direct Current Electrode Positive (DCEP), providing flexibility across different machine setups. The resulting weld bead has a distinct ripple pattern characteristic of cellulosic electrodes, with a thin, friable slag that is easily removed.

Packaged in a convenient 10-pound pack, these 1/8-inch diameter electrodes are suitable for welding material thicknesses generally ranging from 1/8 inch up to 1/2 inch or more with multi-pass techniques. Whether used for tacking assemblies in a fabrication shop or repairing agricultural equipment in the field, the Hobart 335A delivers reliable, high-strength connections with tensile strengths meeting the 60,000 psi minimum requirement of the E60XX classification.

FAQ

The Hobart 335A is classified as an AWS E6011 electrode.

Yes, Hobart 335A is specifically designed to operate with excellent stability on AC power sources, as well as DCEP.

Absolutely. The E6011 classification indicates a cellulosic coating that provides a digging arc capable of penetrating through rust, paint, dirt, and galvanized coatings.

For the 1/8" diameter, the recommended amperage range is typically between 75 and 130 amps, depending on the material thickness and position.

The Hobart 335A is an all-position electrode, suitable for Flat, Horizontal, Vertical (Up), and Overhead welding.

The E6011 (Hobart 335A) offers similar deep penetration and fast-freeze characteristics to an E6010 but contains potassium in the coating to allow it to run on AC power, whereas E6010 is strictly DC.

Cellulosic electrodes like the E6011 generally do not require oven storage and actually need a small amount of moisture to function correctly. They should be stored at room temperature in a dry place.
