OVERVIEW

Industrial Grade E6011 Electrodes for Versatile Fabrication

The Bonarc E6011 3.2mm Stick Electrode is a high-quality, all-position cellulosic electrode designed for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Engineered to meet AWS A5.1 E6011 specifications, this electrode features a high-cellulose potassium coating that facilitates a forceful, deep-penetrating arc. This characteristic makes it an exceptional choice for structural welding where root penetration is critical, as well as for general fabrication tasks involving mild steel.

One of the primary technical advantages of the Bonarc E6011 is its versatility regarding power sources. Unlike E6010 electrodes which are strictly DC, the E6011 is formulated to operate smoothly on Alternating Current (AC) as well as Direct Current Electrode Positive (DCEP). This flexibility allows it to be used with a wide range of welding machines, from industrial three-phase power sources to smaller, single-phase AC "buzz boxes" commonly found in maintenance shops.

The electrode produces a fast-freezing weld pool, which is essential for out-of-position welding, particularly in vertical-up and overhead orientations. The slag layer is thin and easily removable, reducing post-weld cleanup time. Furthermore, the chemical composition of the flux allows for excellent arc stability even when welding over contaminants. It is specifically recommended for applications where base metal preparation is less than ideal, such as welding through rust, scale, paint, or galvanized coatings.

FAQ

Bonarc E6011 is designed to run on both AC (Alternating Current) and DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive). This makes it very versatile for different welding machines.

For a 3.2mm (1/8") E6011 electrode, the recommended amperage range is typically between 80 and 125 Amps, depending on the material thickness and welding position.

Yes, E6011 electrodes are famous for their ability to weld through rust, paint, dirt, and mill scale thanks to their deep-penetrating arc and aggressive flux.

Generally, no. E6011 is a cellulosic electrode and relies on a small amount of moisture in the coating for its arc characteristics. They should be stored at room temperature in a dry place, but not in a high-temperature oven like low-hydrogen rods.

The main difference is the potassium in the E6011 coating, which allows it to operate on AC power. E6010 is sodium-based and strictly for DC power. Both have similar penetration and fast-freeze characteristics.

While E6011 can be used for vertical down welding on thinner materials to prevent burn-through, it is primarily designed for vertical up welding on structural applications to ensure proper penetration.

As an E60xx class electrode, the Bonarc E6011 provides a minimum tensile strength of 60,000 psi.
