OVERVIEW

High-Efficiency Heavy Fabrication Electrode

The Lincoln Electric Jetweld 7024-1 is a premium stick electrode designed for industrial applications where speed and deposition rates are critical. Engineered with a heavy iron powder coating, this E7024-1 classified electrode allows for significantly faster welding speeds compared to conventional E6013 or E7018 rods. It is specifically formulated for flat and horizontal fillet welds, making it a staple in heavy fabrication shops, shipyards, and structural steel manufacturing facilities. The 5.0mm diameter is particularly suited for welding thicker plates and heavy sections where filling joints rapidly is essential for maintaining production schedules.

One of the standout features of the Jetweld 7024-1 is its ease of use. The heavy coating allows for a "drag" technique, where the welder can simply rest the coating on the workpiece, maintaining a consistent arc length automatically. This reduces operator fatigue and ensures uniform bead consistency even over long welds. The 18-inch length further improves efficiency by reducing the frequency of electrode changes, allowing for longer continuous weld runs. This electrode operates smoothly on both AC and DC+ (Reverse Polarity), providing flexibility depending on the power source available in the shop or field.

At Josef Gas, we understand the needs of high-volume fabricators. The Lincoln Jetweld 7024-1 delivers the reliability and performance required for critical structural work. The "-1" suffix indicates that this electrode meets specific impact property requirements, offering enhanced toughness compared to standard E7024 rods. Whether you are fabricating bridge girders, earthmoving equipment, or heavy machinery bases, this electrode provides the deep penetration and high metal transfer needed to ensure structural integrity. Its slag is often self-peeling, leaving behind a clean, professional-looking weld with minimal spatter, reducing the time and labor costs associated with post-weld cleaning.

FAQ

The E7024-1 electrode is designed specifically for flat and horizontal fillet welds only. The large fluid weld pool created by the high deposition rate makes it unsuitable for vertical or overhead welding.

Lincoln Jetweld 7024-1 operates excellently on both AC (Alternating Current) and DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive). AC is often preferred to prevent arc blow at high amperages.

The '-1' suffix indicates that the electrode meets specific impact toughness requirements (Charpy V-Notch) at a specified lower temperature (typically 20 ft-lbs at 0°F or -18°C), which standard E7024 may not guarantee.

The 18-inch length is common for larger diameter electrodes (like 5.0mm) to allow for longer weld runs and fewer electrode changes, increasing overall productivity.

The iron powder in the coating becomes part of the weld metal, significantly increasing the deposition rate (amount of metal deposited per hour) compared to non-iron powder electrodes like E6013.

For a 5.0mm (approx. 3/16") E7024 electrode, the amperage range is typically between 200 and 300 amps, depending on the base metal thickness and specific machine settings.

While E7024 can handle some mill scale, it is generally recommended for cleaner steel compared to E6010 or E6011. Heavy rust or oil should be removed to prevent porosity and ensure a high-quality weld.
