Hydrogen-induced cracking is a significant concern when welding high-strength materials; the basic slag formulation of Fabco 115 actively assists in reducing diffusible hydrogen levels (typically meeting H4 requirements), thereby significantly mitigating the risk of cold cracking in the heat-affected zone (HAZ). This makes it an essential consumable for critical structural welds where integrity cannot be compromised.
Metallurgically, the wire deposits weld metal with tensile strengths exceeding 110,000 psi, matching the mechanical properties of T-1 and similar steel grades. It exhibits excellent impact toughness at sub-zero temperatures, ensuring ductility and resistance to brittle fracture in harsh operating environments. The wire is designed for use with either 100% CO2 or a 75% Argon / 25% CO2 shielding gas blend, offering flexibility depending on the specific procedure qualification and desired arc characteristics. While basic slag wires typically operate in the globular transfer mode, Fabco 115 is optimized for stability and bead profile control in flat and horizontal positions.
