The Hobart HB-28 is a premium copper-coated, mild steel solid welding wire designed for general fabrication and structural applications. Classified as an AWS ER70S-6, this wire is formulated with higher levels of manganese and silicon deoxidizers compared to standard ER70S-3 wires. This chemical composition allows the HB-28 to be significantly more forgiving when welding over light rust, mill scale, and oil, making it an ideal choice for industrial environments where perfect surface preparation is not always feasible.

Engineered for consistency, the HB-28 features a high-quality copper coating that enhances electrical conductivity and protects the wire from oxidation during storage. This coating also plays a critical role in feedability, reducing friction within the liner and contact tip to prevent bird-nesting and ensure a stable arc, even over long conduit runs. The wire diameter is precision-controlled to 0.045 inches, suitable for medium-to-heavy plate welding in single or multi-pass operations.

This 45lb spool is designed for high-volume production environments. The wire operates effectively with both 100% CO2 for deep penetration and cost savings, or Argon/CO2 mixtures (such as C25) for a smoother arc and reduced spatter.
